Ras Al Khaimah, the northernmost emirate of the UAE, has been recognized as the top city worldwide for expatriates to relocate to, according to the 2024 Expat Insider report from InterNations.
Leading the World in Expats’ Essentials
In a survey covering 53 global cities, Ras Al Khaimah secured the top spot in the Expat Essentials Index. This index evaluates factors such as housing affordability, digital infrastructure, ease of bureaucracy, and language accessibility—key aspects that make relocation smoother for expatriates.
Expat Experience: Easy Housing and Smooth Transition
The survey revealed that 72% of expatriates found securing housing in Ras Al Khaimah easy, well above the global average of 45%. The emirate outperformed expectations in addressing concerns typically associated with relocating, with 69% of respondents noting no major difficulties with housing, local bureaucracy, or language barriers. This is a stark contrast to the global average of just 29%.
Rising Global Appeal for Expat Professionals
Beyond its top ranking, Ras Al Khaimah also claimed second place in the “Working Abroad” category and fifth place for “Ease of Settling In,” emphasizing its growing status as a preferred destination for professionals looking to relocate internationally.
A Diverse Economy and Strong Infrastructure
Ras Al Khaimah’s economy is diversified, with no single sector contributing more than 30% to its GDP. It holds an ‘A’ credit rating from Fitch and Standard & Poor’s, a status it has maintained for 15 years. The emirate has positioned itself as an ideal place for international residents and businesses, offering a secure environment with robust economic growth.

The emirate boasts a 64-kilometre coastline, desert landscapes, and Jebel Jais, the UAE’s highest peak, where the world’s longest zipline extends nearly 3 kilometers. Recently, Ras Al Khaimah launched the “Heart of RAK” digital platform, showcasing the vibrant lifestyle and promising opportunities in this expanding emirate.
